Death of a client

The date benefit payment stops following the death of a client depends on whether the client has:

  • a partner or
  • a dependent child

Cost of funeral

The person responsible for the cost of the funeral may be able to get a Funeral Grant.

Child turns 18

A child will not be excluded from the parent or caregiver's Jobseeker Support when the child turns 18 during the terminal benefit period.

The review of circumstances for a discretionary benefit such as Jobseeker Support on the ground of hardship when their child turns 18 is not required when the client has died.

For the purposes of the review of circumstances when a child turns 18 or an 18-year-old child is no longer considered a dependent child and is excluded from a parent or caregiver's benefit, the following are discretionary benefits:
