In or awaiting treatment for a drug addiction or dependence

A good and sufficient reason for failing a drug test obligation includes if a client is in or awaiting treatment for a drug addiction or dependence.

Treatment for the purposes of the drug test requirements means any specialist treatment service provided for a person because of a diagnosed drug dependency.

The client can either be participating in or on the waiting list for a specialist treatment service.

Specialist treatment services are services that:

  • provide specific medical or psychological interventions with the goal of helping a person to overcome drug dependency
  • a client has been referred to following a formal assessment by the Community Alcohol and Drug Service (CADS), a registered health practitioner or by a registered AOD practitioner

The client can be asked to provide verification from the person recommending the treatment or from the treatment service. The verification must state the duration or time that the client will need to address their drug dependency and whether they are participating or on the wait list for treatment.

There is a Drug test obligations verification form [no link find out why] that you can provide to your client.
