Training providers requiring a drug test
Some training providers will require potential trainees to pass a drug test as a prerequisite to being accepted on the course.
Training providers will use drug tests where the training programmes have a focus on employment outcomes. This includes training programmes that are:
- non classroom based programmes or on-the-job programmes where the tests are required for health and safely purposes
- classroom based training where the industry would require the trainee to be drug free for health and safety purposes to gain employment
Note a client can only fail the drug test obligations for drug tests that are being taken as prerequisites to being accepted onto a course - not for any other on-going drug tests that a training provider may ask for.
Reimbursement
A training provider cannot be reimbursed for the costs of a failed drug test. In most cases the contract with the provider will have already factored these costs into account.
Verification
In order to make a decision that a client has failed a drug test, without good and sufficient reason, you must have received confirmation from the training provider.
