Private hospitals and rest homes
Payment of New Zealand Superannuation can be paid at the full rate when a client is:
- admitted to a private hospital or
- admitted to a private rest home that provides residential care disability services
If the client receives Extra Help, this will need to be reviewed to see if the costs are continuing.
For more information see:
Transfer from rest home to hospital
If a client is a resident of a rest home and has been transferred to a hospital, their rate of payment can be reduced when they have been in hospital for 13 weeks.
Continue payment to the rest home unless the client requests otherwise. Re-instate the New Zealand Superannuation, if it has been reduced, to the original rate from the day the client is transferred back to the home.
