Sole Parent Support : Contents

Expiry date falls in the week immediately before or including 26 December

If a client's expiry date falls in the week immediately before or including 26 December, their Sole Parent Support can continue to be paid until the first Monday following 2 January. The client must complete the reapplication process before that Monday to continue getting Sole Parent Support.

The client’s expiry date does not change in this situation. This means that if a client completes the reapplication process and continues to qualify for Sole Parent Support their benefit will be regranted from their expiry date, not from the first Monday after 2 January.

Note when a client’s expiry date falls in the week immediately before or including 26 December, the ‘initial notice to reapply’ letter will be sent 25 working days before their expiry date.

Example 1 - Expiry date falls in the week immediately before 26 December

Sol is getting Sole Parent Support with his 8 year old dependent child included in his benefit, which expires on 17 December 2025. Sol's expiry date falls in the week immediately before 26 December.

His Sole Parent Support will continue to be paid until 5 January 2026, which is the first Monday after 2 January. He must complete the reapplication process before 5 January 2026.

Sol completes the reapplication process on time and continues to qualify for Sole Parent Support. His benefit is regranted from the expiry date, 17 December 2025.

Example 2 - Expiry date falls in the week including 26 December

Kate is getting Sole Parent Support with her 4 year old dependent child included in her benefit, which expires on 22 December 2026. Kate's expiry date falls in the week of 26 December.

Her Sole Parent Support will continue to be paid until 4 January 2027, which is the first Monday after 2 January. She must complete the reapplication process before 4 January 2027.

Kate completes the reapplication process on time and continues to qualify for Sole Parent Support. Her benefit is regranted from the expiry date, 22 December 2026.

Example 3 - Expiry date does not fall within the week immediately before or including 26 December

Bethany is getting Sole Parent Support with her 11 year old dependent child included in her benefit, which expires on 31 December 2027.

As the expiry date does not fall within the week immediately before or including 26 December, Bethany's payments will stop on 31 December 2027, which is her expiry date.

Bethany's Sole Parent Support will be cancelled if she does not complete the reapplication process before her expiry date.
