Notice to reapply
Clients with a current Sole Parent Support are automatically sent an "initial notice to reapply" letter 25 working days before their expiry date advising them they need to complete the 52 week reapplication process.
A client needs to complete the 52 week reapplication process before their expiry date if they still need Sole Parent Support.
The notice period allows sufficient time for clients to attend an appointment and complete the 52 week reapplication process.
Note the initial notice to reapply letter will not be sent to clients if their benefit is suspended or cancelled.
For more information see:
Initial notice to reapply
The "initial notice to reapply" letter advises the client:
- that if they still need Sole Parent Support they must reapply before their expiry date and
- what they need to do to complete the 52 week reapplication process
There are no review rights in these letters because it is a requirement for clients to complete the 52 week reapplication process.
For information see:
Sole Parent Support clients getting Disability Allowance
Clients getting Sole Parent Support must complete the reapplication process to continue getting their benefit. These clients will have a Mandatory Review for Disability Allowance when they:
- are completing the reapplication process for the benefit and
- their disability costs have not been reviewed in the last 44 weeks
If a client's disability costs have been reviewed in the last 44 weeks, there will be no Mandatory Review of Disability Allowance.
Note this applies to the Review of Disability Allowance only, it does not apply when the disability is due for medical reassessment.
The reapplication process is not impacted if a client does not complete their Mandatory Review for Disability Allowance.
For more information see:
Reminder to reapply
If a client has not completed the 52 week reapplication process a reminder letter will be sent 7 working days before their expiry date.
Contact made before notice period
If a client makes contact before their notice period, MSD will schedule an appointment to complete the 52 week reapplication process within their notice period (but before their expiry date).
