Unforeseen hospitalisation
In determining whether a client has an exceptional circumstance for not completing the 52 week reapplication process before their expiry date on the grounds of unforeseen hospitalisation, the client must have experienced one of the following situations during their notice period:
- an unplanned emergency surgery in a hospital which affected their ability to reapply before their expiry date or
- unplanned emergency treatment in a hospital which affected their ability to reapply before their expiry date
Evidence
MSD may require the client to provide evidence that they were in hospital. This could include:
- admissions or discharge forms
- medical certificate or medical report
- letter from the doctor
If the client is in hospital care during their notice period, they may not need to complete the 52 week reapplication process for Sole Parent Support. If their dependent child is in hospital care, they may qualify for an extension if they need more time to complete the reapplication.
