Inappropriate use of Sustainable Employment Trial
In some situations, you may become aware of clients who appear to be inappropriately using the Sustainable Employment Trial process. For example, a client who takes up a substantial number of separate Sustainable Employment Trials with no intention to gain and maintain regular employment.
Special care must be taken in these situations and any decision must be on a case-by-case basis; in some cases it may not be appropriate to agree to an additional Employment Trial. If you need help in making this decision, contact Helpline.
If the client has established a pattern of successfully working 15 or more hours per week over a number of Sustainable Employment Trials, the client's benefit entitlement must be reviewed to establish whether they still meet the qualifications for Supported Living Payment. This may include referring the client to a designated health practitioner
. This is not required if the client has a legitimate reason, for example they were not able to sustain their previous jobs.
Where the client no longer meets the qualifications for Supported Living Payment, you should cancel the benefit, and determine the client's eligibility to other forms of assistance such as Jobseeker Support or non-beneficiary assistance.
