Deductions
In certain circumstances Work and Income can be required to pay part of the client's benefit to another party.
Work and Income is legally required to make such deductions when served with a properly issued Deduction Notice or Attachment Order. In these cases, the consent of the client is not required.
Certain forms of deductions take priority over others.
For more information see:
Deductions include the following:
- Inland Revenue deductions
- Court attachment orders
- Student Loan repayments
- Debt Repayment Orders
- Ministry of Social Development debt repayments
- Core policy Child Support
The Central Processing Unit deals with Child Support, Debt Repayment Orders, Court attachment orders, and Inland Revenue deduction notices (other than Student Loan deductions).
Veterans Pension payments may be suspended where a client's record is matched with an outstanding Warrant to Arrest. This will mean that other Court attachments, debt repayment, student loans, Inland Revenue deductions and child support deductions cannot be made.
Payment of Veterans Pension can only be resumed from the date when the Warrant to Arrest has been cleared.
For more information see:
- Core policy Warrant to Arrest
