Specific location requirements
If the client requires a specific location, they must demonstrate an urgent and compelling need to be housed in that location.
Social housing assessment of need ensures that people who are most in need of housing are housed appropriately in a house that meets their property requirements. Property requirements also include consideration of the specific location that is required by the household.
Examples of situations where a specific location requirement might be justified (but not limited to) include:
- where the location of a client's accommodation impacts on the client accessing essential services, amenities, support networks, employment, or special schools, and hospitals
- the household needs to be relocated immediately due to family violence or other violence relating to the client's current living situation
- the household needs to be relocated immediately due to abuse or harassment, or because of neighbourhood tension or tensions within the household relating to the client's current living situation
- client needs to be in a specific location due to a threat to the health and safety of the household members or household members may pose a threat to the community and therefore need to be moved to a different location
