Changes to household circumstances expected in next 52 weeks

A tenant may know their household circumstances will change in the next 52 weeks which means they won't be able to sustain alternative housing.

If the affordability formula is applied based on the known change, MSD may find the tenant would not be able to stay in alternative housing once the change happens.

This means the tenant still qualifies for social housing.

Examples of known changes in the next 52 weeks

Examples of known changes include (but are not limited to):

  • tenant is on a short-term employment contract and when this ends, they will be unemployed
  • tenant has a terminal illness and will need to give up work, or their partner may need to give up work to care for them
  • expecting a child which means household earnings will decrease
  • additional occupant moving in where the tenant or their partner will need to give up employment to care for this person

Social housing is also known as Public housing.
