Application process
Initial application
Recipients of NZQA Scholarship Monetary Awards are determined by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA). Recipients are notified by NZQA of their award.
This notification includes information about the awards, requests further information from the recipient. For selected recipients, this includes an invitation to an award ceremony held in Wellington.
NZQA forwards information about the recipients to StudyLink. StudyLink sends each recipient a form to sign (to confirm their personal details) and return to StudyLink. Forms are usually sent out to students in March or April each year.
Confirmation of study
StudyLink will confirm with the student's education provider that the student is studying an approved programme of study.
Continuing eligibility for the award
Some NZQA Scholarship Monetary Awards are paid for more than one year.
Subsequent years of payment
Students who have been awarded an NZQA Scholarship Monetary Award that is for more than one year do not have to re-apply each year for the award. They continue to be entitled to payment of the Award provided they:
- complete and return their renewal form to StudyLink each year and
- have an entitlement to a further year of the award and
- for students who received their initial payment in 2006 or later, maintain a minimum of a B Grade average for each year of their course or
- for students who received their initial payment in 2005, pass over half of their study each year
StudyLink will send the student a renewal form in October prior to the next year of payment. The student needs to check the form, confirm or correct the information on the form, sign it and return it. Where required, the student also needs to send evidence of their results for the course just ended/about to end.
