Payment of awards
First Year payments
The top performing students are invited to attend a ceremony in Wellington, where they are presented with their award by the Governor General.
All students receive their payments directly into their nominated bank account. Payments that are ready to be made are released on the day after the ceremony.
The date of the awards ceremony (and therefore the date the awards will be paid) is usually in May each year. The date is dependant on the availability of the Governor General, who presides over the ceremony.
Subsequent year payments
StudyLink will confirm with the student's education provider that the student is continuing to study an approved programme.
When StudyLink receives these study details, the award payment will be paid into the student's nominated bank account. The earliest that this payment can occur is 1 January each year.
