Reasons beyond student's control
Reasons beyond the student's control means the student should not have any choice or influence on the situation.
Reasons include:
- medical, social or psychological reasons which affected the student's ability to carry out their studies
In cases of continuing illness (for example psychological problems), or where the student is seeking continuation for a second or subsequent time, evidence should also be obtained that the student is now capable of undertaking and successfully completing full-time study. - family breakdown or illness in the family
- civil emergency such as flooding, earthquake or similar
- course cancellation - where the education provider has cancelled or changed the course or withdrawn tuition
Note financial hardship alone is not normally an acceptable reason.
Students who believe that their situation was beyond their control will need to supply a written statement and, in most situations, evidence of their circumstances (such as a medical certificate, letter from a counsellor or letter from their education provider).
