Taxation
General Portability payments are made at a gross rate. This means that the payments are not taxed in New Zealand for those clients who are going to reside or travel for more than 26 weeks in an overseas country or countries
Clients who are residing overseas and are paid into an overseas bank account may have a tax liability in the country they have moved to. They should contact the tax authority in the country they are moving to for more information.
If payments are being made into a New Zealand bank account, clients will need to contact New Zealand Inland Revenue to determine their tax liability.
Clients who are travelling overseas for more than 26 weeks will need to contact New Zealand Inland Revenue to determine their tax liability.
Note if a client intends to travel overseas for more than 26 weeks, we cannot pay their tax for them while they are overseas. They will need to contact Inland Revenue before they leave New Zealand to discuss their tax liability while they are overseas.
