Severely disabled medical criteria
When a client from Australia does not meet the residence qualifications for New Zealand Supported Living Payment (health condition, injury disability or totally blind), their residence in Australia can only be regarded as residence in New Zealand if they meet all of the additional criteria for Supported Living Payment (health condition, injury disability or totally blind) including the severely disabled medical criteria.
The client needs to be medically assessed as severely disabled. Severely disabled means a person who:
- has a physical, psychiatric or intellectual impairment (or a combination of these) which makes the person, without taking into account any other factor, totally unable to work for at least the next 2 years and who is unable to improve their ability to participate in a programme of assistance or a rehabilitation programme within the next 2 years or
- is permanently blind
Note
When a client applies for New Zealand Supported Living Payment (health condition, injury disability or totally blind) in these circumstances International Services will test for Supported Living Payment (for the severely disabled) if necessary.
International Services will send the client the necessary application forms and will also arrange for the client to undergo the necessary medical assessments.
