Supported Living Payment
When a client from Australia meets all the qualifications for the New Zealand Supported Living Payment (health condition, injury, disability or totally blind) except residence they may qualify under the agreement with Australia.
The agreement with Australia allows Australian residence to be regarded as residence in New Zealand for a client to meet the period of residence qualification for Supported Living Payment (health condition, injury, disability or totally blind).
However, these clients must also meet additional criteria and these applications must be decided by International Services
The client must also:
- meet additional criteria including different medical criteria and
- qualify for an Australian pension that is payable under the agreement which will be directly deducted from New Zealand Supported Living Payment (health condition, injury, disability or totally blind)
Single clients living in Australia can only continue to receive a Supported Living Payment until they meet the qualifying age for the Australian Age Pension. At that time, they are required to apply for New Zealand Superannuation. They must contact International Services when they meet the qualifying age for the Australian Age Pension
Clients who are married, in a civil union or in a de facto relationship can continue to receive a Supported Living Payment until the younger partner reaches the qualifying age for the Australian Age Pension. At that time, the clients are required to apply for New Zealand Superannuation. They must contact International Services when this happens.
To apply for New Zealand Superannuation, they will need to contact International Services.
