Young Parent Payment : Contents

Introduction

Young Parent Payment is for 16 to 19 year old young people who:

  • have a dependent child or children and
  • are single or
  • are, or have been, married, in a civil union, or in a de facto relationship

The Youth Service Support Unit (YSSU) is responsible for making decisions on behalf of Work and Income and for the general administration of the Young Parent Payment.

While a young person is receiving Young Parent Payment, they are case managed by a service provider (if one is assigned to them), or the Work and Income 'in-house' service. The service provider or the Work and Income 'in-house' service work closely with the YSSU and will make recommendations to assist the YSSU to make decisions.
