Payment
Young Parent Payment is paid weekly on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Payment is from Monday to Sunday and is made one week in arrears.
Most young people getting Young Parent Payment will be under youth money management. This is when the young person gets an in-hand allowance of up to $50 a week, with the majority of their payment being redirected to pay for their everyday living costs and lawful debts. For more information about how this is paid see:
For young people who are not subject to youth money management, payment must be made directly to the young person.
It is a condition of getting a benefit that the young person provides a bank account number. MSD can request the young person to provide an IRD number or evidence of their IRD number.
