Youth money management
Youth money management is where a young person being paid a Young Parent Payment can get an in-hand allowance of up to $50 a week, with most of their payment being redirected to pay for their everyday living costs and any lawful debts. Any remainder is placed onto their payment card.
Young people will not be subject to youth money management and will have their full payment paid directly to them when they have:
- demonstrated continued compliance with their obligations and been assessed as being financially competent or
- opted out of youth money management because they have turned 20 years old and have chosen to stay on Young Parent Payment and complete their course of study, training or work-based learning
