Employment requirement

The employment requirement applies to the employment the client started while they were enrolled in Community Job Coaching and when they apply for Bonus Payment.

To meet the employment requirement, the client must meet the following criteria for the employment they started while enrolled and the employment they are in when they apply:

  • the employment hours criteria or
  • the employment income criteria

The client must also meet the sustainable employment criteria for the employment they are in when they apply for Bonus Payment.

Note employment must be paid employment and includes self-employment.

Employment does not need to be continuous

When a client starts employment while enrolled in Community Job Coaching, they do not need to stay in that same employment to qualify for Bonus Payment. They may change jobs or have periods of unemployment before applying for Bonus Payment. If the client is in employment that meets the employment requirement when they apply for Bonus Payment and they meet all other qualifications, they can get Bonus Payment.

Employment must have started at application

When a client applies for Bonus Payment, their employment must have already started. If they have confirmed employment (e.g. signed a contract) but it has not started when they apply for Bonus Payment, they do not qualify. If the employment starts during the application period, the client can apply again once it has started.

Example 1

Will started employment of 35 hours a week and his Jobseeker Support was cancelled from a date while he was enrolled in Community Job Coaching.

Twelve months later, Will left that employment and accepted a job offer of 40 hours a week. Will applies for Bonus Payment 2 weeks before the new employment starts.

Will does not meet the employment requirement because his new job has not started when he applies for Bonus Payment.

Example 2

Henry started employment of 40 hours a week and his Jobseeker Support was cancelled from a date while he was enrolled in Community Job Coaching.

Twelve months later, Henry left that employment and started a new job of 35 hours a week. He applies for Bonus Payment after being in his new job for 1 month.

Henry meets the employment requirement because he is in employment on the date he applies for Bonus Payment. The employment Henry is in when he applies does not need to be the same employment he started while enrolled in Community Job Coaching.
