Pre-benefit activity for partners
A pre-benefit activity is an employment-related activity that a partner may be required to complete as part of their application for benefit. This is to help the partner find and retain paid employment.
The partner is obliged to complete this activity once it has been assigned to them for their application for benefit to progress (otherwise the application will lapse after 20 working days). However, there may be situations where it is no longer reasonable for the partner to complete the assigned activity.
Client's individual circumstances
A pre-benefit activity may be assigned based on the partner's individual circumstances.
For example, contact through the partner's agent may be appropriate for partners, if they are a:
- child sex offender
- home detainee
- trespass client or
- person with difficulties with language, literacy or numeracy
Activity must not be assigned
A pre-benefit activity must not be assigned when it is determined that a partner does not have the capacity to seek, undertake and be available for part-time work.
