Social Rehabilitation Assistance : Contents

Main benefit

If a client is currently receiving a main benefit you will need to check that the client can still meet the qualifications of that benefit while resident in an approved social rehabilitation programme.

If not, the client may need to transfer to a more appropriate benefit for the length of their social rehabilitation such as Jobseeker Support on the ground of a health condition, injury or a disability, or Supported Living Payment.

Clients applying for or transferring to Jobseeker Support on the ground of a health condition, injury or a disability will continue to be required to provide an initial medical certificate as proof of their medical condition.

Clients applying for or transferring to Supported Living Payment on the ground of a health condition, injury, disability or total blindness will continue to be required to provide proof of their medical condition.

If the client's main benefit is less than the single Supported Living Payment rate, then you should increase the rate to that level.

Note

There is a special income test for clients who are receiving New Zealand Superannuation or Veterans Pension.

No stand-down

No stand-down applies to clients who:

  • are required to pay all or part of a benefit towards the cost of their treatment or care in a residential programme

Extra help

Clients cannot receive Social Rehabilitation Assistance as well as Accommodation Supplement, Disability Allowance, Special Benefit or Temporary Additional Support.

Clients must choose to have their Accommodation Supplement, Disability Allowance, Special Benefit or Temporary Additional Support stopped if they are to be granted Social Rehabilitation Assistance.
