On leave for 28 days or less

Where a client who is receiving the hospital rate is on leave from hospital for 28 days or less:

• increase their New Zealand Superannuation to the appropriate full rate from the date of discharge on leave
• for married, civil union or de facto clients reduce the partner's New Zealand Superannuation, benefit or pension to the married, civil union or de facto rate and suspend Special Disability Allowance and
• review any Extra Help from the same date

On re-admission to hospital:

• reduce New Zealand Superannuation to the rate payable prior to the period of leave
• for married, civil union or de facto clients increase the partner's New Zealand Superannuation, benefit or pension and resume Special Disability Allowance and
• review any Extra Help from the same date

Note the dates of admission and discharge are not regarded as days spent in hospital.
