Clients on leave from hospital

New Zealand Superannuation is paid at the full rate for any period of leave from hospital. Where the client has been receiving the hospital rate increase their New Zealand Superannuation for any period they are on leave.

The action to take, on a client's re-admission to hospital, will depend on how long they were on leave.

Effect of leave on thirteen week count

Any periods of leave from hospital of 28 days or less are to be ignored when deciding the date from which New Zealand Superannuation is to be reduced to the hospital rate. Calculate the period in hospital from the original admission date.

If the client has been allowed out of hospital for more than 28 days, the calculation of the 13 week period in hospital begins again after the client has been re-admitted.
