Benefit has expired
If your client's benefit has expired before they have been able to provide a Work and Income medical certificate, existing assessments or attend an assessment with a designated health practitioner (or receive an assessment back from the designated health practitioner), you can temporarily continue Supported Living Payment (health condition, injury or disability).
Before temporarily continuing Supported Living Payment (health condition, injury or disability) your client needs to advise you of the reason for the delay in providing the information. When they do this you need to:
- consider the reason given for the delay and agree on a reasonable and appropriate period for them to provide the information
- advise your client of the date that they are required to provide the information
- advise them that their benefit will stop from this date if the information isn't provided
Note that if your client is unable to, or it is not reasonable to expect your client or their parent, guardian or agent to obtain existing assessments or reports you can assist them to do this.
For more information see:
Designated health practitioner assessment
Where it is not reasonable for your client to access the supporting information or where your client is unable to access the supporting information within the timeframe you can refer your client to a designated health practitioner.
