Review of client's health condition

When a client applies for Supported Living Payment (health condition, injury or disability) supporting information is used to decide whether your client is both permanently and severely restricted in their capacity to work.

When Supported Living Payment (health condition, injury or disability) is granted, the supporting information is also used to determine if the client's capacity for work will be reassessed:

  • inĀ 2 years or
  • never (if the client qualifies to be given simplified access)

For more information see:

Impact of their health condition or disability could improve over time

For some clients it is reasonable to expect the impact of their permanent health condition or disability may change over time and the client's capacity for work may improve. These clients will have their benefit reassessed in 2 years. The client's capacity to work may improve over time because the impact of the client's health condition or disability reduces. This could be because:

  • their condition improves or
  • the client becomes better at managing the impact on their capacity to work over time

Impact of their health condition or disability is unlikely to improve over time

A small number of clients will qualify to be given simplified access because the impact of their health condition or disability on their capacity for work is unlikely to ever improve enough that they could regularly work 15 hours per week or more in open employment.

Clients who qualify to be given simplified access will never require medical reassessment.

Client requires reassessment at 2 years

All clients who are eligible for Supported Living Payment but do not qualify to be given simplified access will be reassessed in 2 years.

For reassessment, clients will automatically be sent a letter asking them to provide recent information about their health condition or disability. This will be issued approximately 5 weeks before the previous medical certificate expires.
