Clients undertaking multiple Sustainable Employment Trials

Supported Living Payment clients may undertake more than one Sustainable Employment Trial while on benefit, though not more than one Sustainable Employment Trial at the same time. A client may wish to conduct another Sustainable Employment Trial if they were unable to sustain the initial job, for instance:

  • the initial job was unsuitable to their individual disability
  • the client had a recurrence of an injury or illness requiring a break from employment

In making a decision whether or not to agree to another Sustainable Employment Trial in these circumstances, you must take into account a number of factors, including, if appropriate the reasons why the client ended a previous Sustainable Employment Trial. You should also consider whether the duties in the proposed Sustainable Employment Trial are different to those in the earlier Sustainable Employment Trial.
