Evidence for ORS

Your client will need to provide evidence that they were receiving ongoing funding from the ORS scheme.

All students accepted to receive ongoing funding from the ORS scheme will be sent a letter from the Manager of Eligibility, Ministry of Education, Special Education. Your client may still have the acceptance letter they received.

One assessment may not be sufficient to establish entitlement to Supported Living Payment. Your client's need for ORS is most useful at establishing the severity.

You may need to use other assessments or ask your client for information to establish their diagnosis.

For more information see:

If the information you have confirms that your client meets the criteria for Supported Living Payment, you can consider granting Supported Living Payment. You will need to link your client's benefit record to the designated doctor named 'Existing Assessments - Special Education' in the SDOCS screen in SWIFTT.

If you are not satisfied by the information provided that your client meets the medical criteria for Supported Living Payment, refer to your Regional Health Advisor or Regional Disability Advisor [no link find out why] for advice.

Client cannot provide evidence of ORS funding

Your client may have been assessed and granted access to ongoing assistance from the ongoing resources scheme early in their school years.

Your client may not still have the verification letter from the Manager of Eligibility, Ministry of Education, Special Education.

If your client no longer has a copy of this letter they may be able to get a copy from their school or by contacting Ministry of Education, Special Education directly.

If your client is unable to access, or it is not reasonable to expect your client or their parent, guardian or agent to find this information, you can do this for them.

If your client asks you to assist them to obtain their medical or disability information from a third party, they must sign the 'Client consent to release of health or disability information form'. For more information see:

If it is agreed with your client that information from Special Education will best support their application for Supported Living Payment and your client has asked you to assist them to obtain verification, you will need:

  • a consent form to release health and disability information about your client and
  • complete the ORS fax sheet
