Market rent determined by the Tenancy Tribunal

A client can ask the Tenancy Tribunal to review the amount of rent payable under a tenancy agreement and the Tenancy Tribunal can make an order for the rent to be reduced if it is satisfied that it is substantially more than the market rent rate for the property.

While it is possible for social housing clients to request a review of their rent by the Tenancy Tribunal, because of the agreed process for setting market rent rates for social housing properties, it is unlikely that the Tenancy Tribunal would find that a rent for a social housing property was substantially higher than the market rent rate.
