Canadian pensions paid in New Zealand

Canada has 2 social security programmes these are the:

• Old Age Security Programme and
• Canadian Pension Plan

Guaranteed Income Supplement and allowance are paid under the Old Age Security Programme. The other pensions are paid under the Canadian Pension Plan.

Pensions paid under the Canadian Pension Plan can be made anywhere in the world provided claimants meet the eligibility conditions.

Some of the following pensions may be paid when a client from Canada is living in New Zealand:

• Disability Pension
• Guaranteed Income Supplement (only paid for first 6 months after leaving Canada)
• Old Age Security Pension
• Orphans Pension
• Retirement Pension
• Spouse's Allowance
• Surviving Spouse's Pension

Canadian pensions are paid directly to the client on a monthly basis. Canadian pensions are directly deducted from the client's New Zealand benefit or pension.

The Canadian Orphans Benefit is directly deducted from any New Zealand benefit or pension the client is getting.

Accommodation Supplement

When a Canadian pension is more than the main benefit rate, the amount over the main benefit rate is directly deducted from any Accommodation Supplement the client may get as a non-beneficiary.

Disability Allowance

If the Canadian pension is considered to be in the nature of a disability allowance, this will be directly deducted from any New Zealand Disability Allowance.

The Canadian authorities can require a client to be medically re-examined periodically, to check they are still entitled to the Disability Pension.

Any medical examinations are arranged by the case manager and the account is sent to International Services to arrange payment.
