Income change
Clients must tell MSD if they have any change in circumstances that affects their entitlement or rate of benefit payable, such as when they earn and receive income.
Any income the Young Parent Payment client (or their partner) gets should be charged against the benefit for the week(s) in which the income was earned or represents.
When a client has fluctuating or casual income, income is charged on a week-by-week basis. Income is charged for the week they work, and for the week without work 'nil' income is charged.
In all cases the client must still qualify for Young Parent Payment.
Any Extra help the client is getting must also be reassessed each time there is a change in the client's income.
Information share Child Support payments
Information share Child Support payments are treated differently as they are automatically charged forward as income for a period of 4 or 5 weeks.

Deductions or redirections
When adding income to a client's record, check there is enough benefit to cover any deductions or redirections. Any deductions or redirections may need to be reduced depending on the amount of benefit payable.
For more information see:
When adding income to a client's record, consider:
- if the client has estimated income
- the period over which to charge income
- income from employment
- if the income is for a past period
- if the income is for a previous tax year
- if the client's income stops
- if the income reduces the benefit to a nil rate
