Client requests a transfer

A client in social housing may have a change in circumstances and let us know that the current property no longer meets their housing needs (requirements). The client may request a transfer to a more suitable property.

When a client requests a transfer, the Social Allocation System (SAS) is used to assess their need and priority for 'other' social housing and confirm their housing requirements.

Outcome of assessment is 'at risk' or' serious housing need'

When a client is assessed as at risk (priority A) or as having a serious housing need (priority B) they will be identified as a transfer client and added to the register. Transfer clients will be matched and referred to suitable properties in the usual manner and according to their priority.

For more information see:

Outcome of assessment is moderate to low housing need

When a client is assessed as having a moderate (priority C) or low risk (priority D) housing need, you will need to advise them that they do not have a housing need that requires them to move to a different social housing property. Clients with a moderate or low housing need are not placed on the register.

Offer housing options

If these clients still want to move, they may have entitlement to other assistance to support a move to the private sector. You should consider referring them to the Housing Options seminar.

Housing provider may be able to move tenant

In some situations, a social housing provider may be able to accommodate the tenant's need to move by transferring them to a more suitable property. The client will need to discuss this with their housing provider.

For more information see:

Income Related Rent

The client's change in circumstances may mean their Income Related Rent needs to be reviewed.
