Change in benefit status affecting residency criteria
When the client has a change in circumstances affecting their residence status, this may affect their continued eligibility for social housing. MSD must:
- decide whether the change affects the rate of Income Related Rent
- review the rate of Income Related Rent if required
When there are changes to the client's Income Related Rent or an applicant's priority on the social housing register see:
- Income Related Rent Change in circumstances
- Register management and referrals Change in circumstances
A client's continued eligibility for social housing will be reviewed when the client is selected for tenancy review.
For more information see:
Example
Steve is getting Emergency Benefit, he doesn't have a residence class visa, but qualified for social housing because he was getting a main benefit.
Steve has just started full-time work, so he is no longer getting a benefit. He is aware he needs to notify MSD about his situation. Steve's continued eligibility to social housing will not be reassessed at this time.
He will need to be selected for a tenancy review before his continued eligibility is reviewed.
