Change in household members
When there has been a change in the household members living in a social housing property (e.g. people, children moving in or out of the property), this may affect the client's need for the particular property they are renting.
In these situations, you need to:
- decide whether the change affects the rate of Income Related Rent
- review the rate of Income Related Rent if required and
- record the change in the system
When there are changes to the client's Income Related Rent or an applicant's priority on the social housing register see:
- Income Related Rent Change in circumstances
- Register management and referrals Change in circumstances
A client's need for the particular property they are renting will be reviewed if the client is selected for tenancy review.
For more information see:
The client will need to contact their housing provider to inform them if any other adults or children have moved into or out of the property as it may affect their tenancy agreement.
Example
Sue works full-time and lives in a 3 bedroom property on her own. Sue's son Shaun has just come back from the United Kingdom and is now living with her. She knows she needs to tell MSD about her situation. Shaun is working and paying a contribution.
Sue's continued eligibility for social housing or the need for the particular property she is renting will not be reassessed at this time. Sue would need to be selected for a tenancy review before her continued eligibility is reviewed.
