Young Parent Payment : Contents

In or available for approved training

A young person can receive Young Parent Payment if they are available for or enrolled full-time in an approved training programme and meet the other qualifications.

For youth activity obligations purposes approved training is defined as employment-related training.

Generally the training will lead to a NCEA level 2 qualification or an equivalent or other higher qualification.

While in approved training and receiving Young Parent Payment, the young person has activity obligations, including regularly attending the programme.

In SWIFTT the Young Parent Payment activity should be recorded as 'Approved training'. An expiry date should be added for the end of the training course. At this time you should reassess the Young Parent Payment, for example, check with the young person if they intend to undertake another training course.
