Pre-benefit activity
A pre-benefit activity is an employment-related activity a client may be required to complete as part of their application for benefit. This is to help a client find and retain paid employment.
A client applying for benefit is obliged to complete this activity once it has been assigned to them for their application for benefit to progress (otherwise the application will lapse after 20 working days). However, there may be situations where it is no longer reasonable for the client to complete the assigned activity.
Client's individual circumstances
A pre-benefit activity may be assigned based on the client's individual circumstances.
For example, contact through the client's agent may be appropriate for clients if they are a:
- child sex offender
- home detainee
- trespass client or
- person with difficulties with language, literacy or numeracy
Activity must not be assigned
A pre-benefit activity must not be assigned where it is determined that a client does not have the capacity to seek, undertake and be available for part-time work of at least 15 hours per week.
