Resuming suspended or expired benefit
Before expiry date
If a client has a suspended (other than due to a grade 2 sanction) or an expired benefit, they will not be sent the 'initial notice to reapply' letter. This is because they are not currently getting a benefit.
For more information see:
If the client's benefit is resumed before the reminder letter is due to be sent, and the client has not completed the reapplication process, MSD must advise them of what they need to do to complete their reapplication.
MSD should consider whether the client will be able to complete the reapplication process before their expiry date and if an extension may be appropriate.
On or after expiry date
If a client makes contact to have their benefit resumed on or after their expiry date and does not have an exceptional circumstance for not reapplying before the expiry date, their benefit must be cancelled from the expiry date.
If the client still needs Jobseeker Support, they will need to apply as a new applicant and will be subject to the usual commencement date rules, including the initial stand-down.
Exception
If the resumption date of the client's benefit would have been before the expiry date, but due to their circumstances the client was unable to complete the reapplication process before the expiry date, MSD will consider whether the client had exceptional circumstances.
