Reinstatement of application

When a client has been removed from the register because we have not been able to contact them to confirm their eligibility, or they have requested to be removed, their application can be reinstated without the need for a new eligibility assessment, if they make contact within 8 weeks.

The client's current circumstances will need to be confirmed and if appropriate a review of the client's housing need and housing requirements completed.

A new eligibility assessment may be required where another person or household unit wants to join the tenancy.

Exception

Grandparented clients (clients who were assessed prior to 2011 as having a low (priority C) to moderate (priority D) housing need), who request to be removed from the register cannot be reinstated. Grandparented clients are not at risk or do not have serious housing need.

If a client has been removed from the register because they are not at risk or do not have a serious housing need, they will need to complete a new application for social housing.

Reapplication for social housing after declining suitable housing without good and sufficient reason

After a client is removed from the register, if they reapply for social housing within the next 13 weeks the decline may affect their eligibility for social housing. Their decision to decline a social housing property will be taken into account as a material factor when assessing whether they have a persistent housing need that is serious or severe.

If they reapply within the 13 weeks and their situation has changed, any material change in circumstances will also be taken into account when assessing whether the person has a housing need that is serious or severe. For more information see:
